Usage: Treatment of epilepsy and bipolar disorder. (Bipolar disorder is a type of depression.)
For adults aged 18 years and over, Lamictal can be used alone or with other medicines, to prevent the periods of depression that occur in bipolar disorder. It is not yet known how Lamictal works in the brain to have this effect.

A small number of people taking Lamictal get an allergic reaction or skin reaction that can be life threatening and develop into more serious problems if not treated.
It is most likely that you have these symptoms during the first few months of treatment with Lamictal, especially if you start on too high a dose or if your dose is increased too quickly, or if you are taking Lamictal with another medicine called valproate. Some symptoms are more common in children so parents should be extra attention.
Symptoms of these reactions include:
skin rashes or redness, which can develop into a life-threatening skin reactions including widespread rash with blisters and peeling skin, particularly around the mouth, nose, eyes and genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), extensive peeling of the skin (more than 30% of the body surface - toxic epidermal necrolysis) or a rash with extensive impact on the liver, blood and other body organs (drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms, also known as hypersensitivity syndrome).

fever, flu-like symptoms or drowsiness,

This medicine can cause Stevens-Johnsons syndrome.
Stevens-Johnsons syndrome is a horrific disease. Absolutely terrifying and deadly.
